Prosperous Spirituality.....

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31

Third John verse 2 is one of the most beloved and well-known Scripture on health:

"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (NKJV). The Greek word for health, hugiaino (hoog-ee-ah’ee-no), means to be sound in body, in good health.  Metaphorically, the word refers to sound doctrine

(I Tim. 1:10; II Tim. 4:3; Titus 2:1); sound words (I Tim. 6:3; II Tim. 1:13); and soundness in the faith (Titus 1:13; Titus 2:1).

The following verses are referenced in Strong’s Concordance under the heading of “health”, with additional Scriptures relating to the topic of health:

Psalm 42:11, 43:5 — “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me?  Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”  (KJV)

Psalm 67:1, 2 — “God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause His face to shine upon us; Se’lah.  That Thy way may be known upon earth, Thy saving health among all nations.”  (KJV)

Proverbs 3:1-8   — "MY SON, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you.   Let not mercy and kindness [shutting out all hatred and selfishness] and truth [shutting out all deliberate hypocrisy or falsehood] forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them upon the tablet of your heart.  So shall you find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight [or judgment] of God and man.

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.  In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.  Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn [entirely] away from evil.  It shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones."     (Amplified Bible)

Proverbs 3:5-8   MEMORY VERSES — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.  It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”    (NKJV)

Proverbs 4:20-23 — “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.  Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.  Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. ”  (NKJV)

Proverbs 12:18 — “There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.”  (NKJV)

Proverbs 12:25 — "Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad."  (NKJV)

Proverbs 16:24 — “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.”  (NKJV)

Proverbs 17:22 — "A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones."  (Amplified Bible)

Proverbs 18:9  —  "He who is loose and slack in his work is brother to him who is a destroyer and he who does not use his endeavors to heal himself is brother to him who commits suicide."   (Amplified Bible)

[Footnote on Proverbs 18:9 from the Amplified Bible]:  This verse so reads in The Septuagint (Greek translation of the Old Testament).  Its statement squarely addresses the problem of whether one has a moral right to neglect his body by "letting nature take its unhindered course" in illness.

Proverbs 25:16 — "Have you found [pleasure sweet like] honey?  Eat only as much as is sufficient for you, lest, being filled with it, you vomit it."  (Amplified Bible)

Editor's note:  This is an excellent reminder not to overeat!

Isaiah 40:31  —  "But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."   (NKJV)

Isaiah 58:6-8 — “Is not this the fast that I have chosen?  To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?  Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house?  When thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?  Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall by thy reward.”  (KJV)

Jeremiah 30:17a — “‘For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord….”  (NKJV)

(Amplified Bible)
